John Gollings: The History of the Built World
"Architecture - the mother of the arts - exerts a privileged claim on our collective respect. Globally and throughout history, architecture exists alongside the highest expressions of human endeavour. It codifies in built form a society's values - transcending utility, transcending style, transcending time and place.
I am a photographer of architecture. My purpose is to identify the quintessential elements and intrinsic dignity of architectural works, ancient and modern, and to convey these sometimes nebulous attributes through the palpable, visual power of form. I try to encapsulate this in a single image." - John Gollings AM.
